Big Move Surf Contest Rocks Coombesgate

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

The inaugural ‘Big Move’ surf contest which was held on August 1st, at the low tide break of Coombesgate near Woolacombe, North Devon proved to be a good time. The Contest was organized by Christian Surfers UK in partnership with Creation Fest and culminated in the surfers being awarded their trophies and cheques at the Creation Fest music festival on the main stage. Bude was represented with not only Joss taking first place, but with Paul Kirby taking 2nd.  Andrew Griffin from Cubert was 3rd, and Westward Ho’s Jake Bowrey 4th.  The event had a real “grass roots” feel, as there was no public address system allowed which took us back to the feel of the early competitions from the late 80’s. On Saturday 2nd in the evening Creation Fest hosted the European premier of the new movie ‘Walking on Water’. Featured surfer Cheyne Cottrell was interviewed in front of a packed marquee.   For more details of the work of Christian Surfers UK, visit www.christiansurfers.co.uk

Who doesn’t love free surf gear? We all know sponsors love to give free stuff to their athletes. Shoes, clothes, all sorts of gear… It’s just part of the deal. But you don’t usually see an athlete get as much love as surfing legend Tom Curren just got from longtime sponsor Rip Curl. Curren has gotten his own Rip Curl store (it’s called Tom Curren’s Rip Curl) on the busy, popular shopping area State Street in Santa Barbara.

“I was first sponsored by Rip Curl when I was 15, that was back in 1979 here in Santa Barbra at the Channel Island store. I was super pumped, Claw had come up to meet me, it’s just one of those times in your life you always remember. Something special kind of like here at this store today,” Curren said at the store opening last week.
